Week 7 - Halloween Bat
My new occupation feels like it is going much better recently! This week, I felt a noticeable difference in my skill level compared to when I started. Even though most origami shapes start out the same, I am impressed that something new can come from it every time. I am getting a feel for how to follow the guides that I use better and how to make precise folds.
Factors that have played a role in choosing my new occupation included something that felt like they could stretch my skills yet still be realistic. I also wanted to find something that seemed conducive to the course to write about and with tracking my progress reasonably well. The guides that I have found to teach me how to do different shapes have been a large factor in how I go about implementing my new origami skills. Video guides have specifically been the most helpful when they go at a certain pace.
Regarding my new occupation in origami, my reflection off of the self-perception mirror has improved over time. At first, I couldn't see myself as one who could do origami. My "I" has certainly seen a bit of a change in "me" since starting origami and graduate school. At first, I felt a bit clueless about both. However, the way "I" see myself has improved in both of those respects. I believe in myself more with origami and I have much greater confidence in being able to finish projects that I start. I also feel that when I begin a new origami project that it won't be as unpleasant to finish as I may have previously thought.
Hey Matthew, this is awesome! It looks so good!! I agree, your occupation is one that is good for tracking progress. Tap dancing is hard sometimes haha! You talked about some of the factors that helped you pick origami as your occupation; were there any social factors that played a role in this? My "social mirror" was a big part of my choice, so I am curious to know if origami is something you've always wanted to do just for you or if you were influenced by others to make that choice. Great work, your bat seriously looks awesome!
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question, I was probably influenced by others to make the choice that I did. My wife originally suggested doing origami because she has some prior experience with it. Thanks for checking out the bat!
DeleteGreat job Matthew. I am proud of you for participating in your new occupation and finding a way to make it meaningful for the holiday!
