Week 4 - Puppy Face

My origami project this week included a new implementation with a technique I've never tried. This included performing intricate ripping in the paper to complete the finished product. I ripped the paper slightly on the bottom edges during folding to shape the dog's "tongue." I followed a guide's specific instructions to try to make it look accurate. I still had a hard time performing that small of ripping to that degree because I believe the design still ended up looking a like a rabbit.

I agree that places can act as a "container for experiences." For example, our anatomy lab for this semester has certainly been a place hosting a variety of eye-opening and unique experiences for me. I recognize that place as one that usually provides a difficult experience. However, I also know that I have the opportunity to grow in that place. I understand that I won't be in that class forever, and I will look back on that place and space as somewhere that provided a challenging experience that I will probably never forget.

I have performed my new occupation of origami in a few different places. However, wherever I do it, the place can become a space that helps me grow. I learn something new every time I try a new origami project. Wherever I learn about origami, it becomes a space where I challenge myself. Embracing that challenge becomes satisfying when I accomplish something that I have never done. The information from the chapter also applies to my situation with the concept of how space "is" (Hasselkus 2011). The space that exists in the anatomy dissection lab will forever act as a memory that reminds of of how I overcame something that I initially felt terrified by.

  1. Hi Matthew,
I really enjoy all of your projects that you have done! I think that this week really looks like a puppy and I can't even fathom how hard origami must be. I know the few times that I have even attempted it my projects never turn out and all of yours look great. Do you think that not only the anatomy lab but the whole portion of our classrooms could be a "container for experiences"? I feel like every class room I am in I am learning and growing as a person and will look back at this whole experience I will not forget. Good job on all of your projects! I am enjoying looking at all of them!

    1. Karlee, I'm so glad that you have enjoyed looking at my origami projects! I would agree that the whole portion of our classrooms act as a container for experiences. Each of them can host a different experience that can be memorable and meaningful.
